    Hypothesis • All the considerations are based on memories, not on documents. • Some omissions are delibarate, most of the omissions are accidental. • The text is a beginning for a research, it isn't a research. • In most of the cases, names, periods, moments, calendar dates are missing.

    The past • In 1964, at some of the faculties of the Institute of Economic Sciences, the department of Mechanization and Automatization of the Economic Calculation had been formed. In 1969, the first series of graduates of Economic Informatics from Romania came out of that faculty. • In 1967, the biggest institution of economic higher education from Romania was reorganized, becoming the Academy of Economic Studies. One of the faculties had the name Faculty of Economic Calculation and Economic Cybernetics. It had three specializations: Economic Cybernetics, The Mechanization and Automatization of the Economic Calculation and Economic Statistics. The length of time of studies: 5 years. Later on, during the 70s, the department of Mechanization and Automatization of the Economic Calculation became Economic Informatics. • Around 1977, because of obscure political reasons, the distruction of the Faculty of Cybernetics took place, becoming the Faculty of Planning and Economic Cybernetics. The length of time of studies was 4 years and it had only one specialization. • The battle between new and old was fought until December 1989. Each time, the old, the retrograde elements being victorious. The proof is the fact that after the Revolution from December 1989, many "kings" and many "queens" of sciences remained without object. Over 25 years, they were the instruments of the communist dictatorship and they theoretically proved scientifically all the decisions of the dictator Nicolae Ceauώescu, transforming them into objective laws of the society. Informatics, mathematics, cybernetics, econometry fought a hard battle for survival, being successful sometimes. • After the 85s, a stupid rector 100% politicized displayed a banner with four professors of computer programming, who had a rate of promotion under 30%, much lower than the level demanded by the communist party. • Right after 1989, more precisely in the spring of the year 1990, the new faculty was reorganized under the name Faculty of Cybernetics, Statistics and Economic Informatics, having three departments: Economic Informatics Economic Cybernetics Economic Statistics Later on, the department Mathematic Economy with smaller dimensions came into being. • Also in the year 1990, the Economic Informatics professor's chair was established. The design of the specialization Economic Informatics included a special, modern, efficient, focused on the society demands, informational curriculae.

  • PRESENT

    The present • The Faculty of Cybernetics, Statistics and Economic Informatics turned from a length of time of 5 years to a 4 ½ years one and for 3 years, it has a length of time of 4 years. • The alignment of the Romanian higher education to the demands of Bologna Process '99 determined the development of work variants, from which the most used one is: 3 years faculty studies 2 years master studies 3 years doctorate studies • It was accentuated on the development of master studies, the collegues from the professor's chair proposed and the successful courses: • e-business • informatized management of the projects • data bases are functioning. • Starting with the year 1993, from 2 to 2 years, the department of Economic Informatics organizes the International Conference of Economic Informatics www.conferenceie.ase.ro • There are major concerns regarding the development of new disciplines, the utilization of the newest operation systems, programming languages. • Every year, important books, which develop applications of the newest results of the computer sciences, of Software Engineering, data bases, internet, have appeared. • Laboratories with the latest generation of equipment have been built. The students and the professors have very good conditions of instruction.

  • FUTURE

    The future • The young professors attend doctorate stages and assure a high level of the development process of the Department and of the Faculty. • The proposed projects for European research programms create the premises for the development of the economic informatics. • The restructuration of the economic high education will also be reflected in the economic informatics education. The ascending trend of the informational society will also be reflected in the instruction processes. The orientation towards the generalized utilization of computers will be decisive for the Department or the Faculty of Economic Informatics in the future. It all depends on the capacity of understanding the fact that economic informatics means progress. The repeating of the mistakes from the year 1977/1978 will represent a disaster, not an alignment to the demands of the informational society. The Romanians have the talent of presenting a failure as a victory and to find arguments for any distructions, in order to present it as an advantage. • The future sounds good, sais a advertisement. The future must be built this way, so that the truth triumphes, taking in a small amount the perpetuation of some disciplines for certain people. An inventory showes that there are few people which have made significant leaps of adoption. The future will be bright only if it will be designed well, by very good people.
